Dr Hassan Malik
General, HPB & Bariatric Surgeon

Dr Hassan Malik is a General Surgeon with a special interest in Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) and Bariatric Surgery at Specialist Network.

Dr Malik was fascinated by HPB & Benign Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) surgery during his training years. Subsequently, Dr Malik completed a one year fellowship in HPB and Bariatric surgery at the Gold Coast University Hospital, followed by a fellowship year in HPB surgery at The Northern Hospital in Melbourne.

Having performed major HPB resections, benign UGI, bariatric, and endocrine operations, Dr Malik also successfully completed major elective and emergency general surgical as well trauma operations. He was involved in the management of complex HPB, and Bariatric cases, with an operative case mix including liver, pancreas, gallbladder and spleen cases with benign to malignant pathologies.

Furthermore, Dr Malik worked as an unaccredited surgical registrar in General Surgery in rural Queensland for several years before becoming a trainee registrar. He has been actively involved in research publications throughout his career, ranging from systematic reviews to case reports/series to presentations at conferences.

Dr Malik is currently involved in a few research projects with the GCUH HPB Unit. He taught medical students, and trained junior doctors at the University of Queensland (UQ) and Bond University. For five years, Dr Malik held the academic title of associate lecturer at UQ.

Outside of work Dr Hassan Malik enjoys playing cricket, squash or badminton and spending time with his family.
